Beach Holidays

I'm spending the better part of the next three weeks at the beach with my parents.

Every September school holidays, from the time I was 11, we would holiday at Yamba on the Northern NSW coast.

When my brother and I got to uni, my parents swapped their two weeks to two weeks in November. Prior to schools going on holidays but around when uni went on summer break.

So I'm going on my first family holidays in a few years. I missed last year, because I was in the US of A. And the year before I had an internship.

I absolutely love Yamba and cannot wait to spend some time on the beach and maybe add to my bikini collection... (I've always managed to pick up a few pairs, really cheap, in the past. Let's hope that continues!)

Anyway, because I'm here, I only have access to my blog via my iPhone so I'm going to put a hold on the 30 day blog challenge. Posts will resume shortly.

DAY 11: YouTube

Day 11: A YouTube video

I'm supposed to share A video, but how am I supposed to choose just one?!

I'm a big fan of Jimmy Kimmel and his late night talk show, and while I was in LA I went to a taping of his show. Before we were allowed onto set they played some highlight clips. This is where I first saw this clip, and since then I have been showing it to anyone who will watch!!

Another clip I saw that day, is this one:

I've always wondered how he convinces celebrities to do these!?!?

If you want to see the final clip in the series I saw pre-taping that day you can search "Jimmy Kimmel Handsome Men's Club".

Finally, because I think this is insanely clever, please enjoy this Axis of Awesome video!

Are there any YouTube videos that I should see? Please link them in the comment section below!

DAY 10: Food, glorious food!

Day 10: A food that you could live off

That is a tough question! I tend to get bored, easily, in most facets of my life. I know that if I had to live off one food, I would get sick of it very quickly.

Having said that, there are a lot of foods I love, that I could quite happily eat a lot of... Just maybe not live off!

I love sweet potato and capsicum and broccoli. I love steak. I love ice cream and sorbet (particularly sorbet). I love lettuce and carrot and cucumber.

Maybe if I could live off of vegetables or salad, as opposed to one vegetable or one part of a salad, then I could do it... But I'd probably still get bored!

Please share what food you could live off, in the comments section below!

DAY 9: Accomplishment

Day 9: Something you are proud of in the last month

I know I just blogged about my Noosa ocean swim, but something related to that, that I am proud of, is my increased fitness levels...

The last time I did an ocean swim, the short run in the middle of the course nearly killed me... I've never been a runner, not even close. But this time at Noosa, I was able to swim do the run and then swim the second part of the course without even thinking of quitting part way through. I even went past people in the short run.

It's nice to know that even though I didn't do any swimming training, the netball and OzTag I've been playing has helped, even if only slightly :)

I'm pretty proud of that!

DAY 8: Goals

Day 8: Short Term Goals for the Month

My main goal at the moment is still to secure a job that combines my passion for sport with my legal qualifications.

I've just applied for an internship with a sporting organisation that I would LOVE to work for, so keep your fingers crossed please!!!

DAY 7: my closest friends

Day 7: A photo of me and my closest friends

I'm very lucky to have some amazing friends in my life. I'm not really sure how to determine who makes "the cut" and who doesn't...

I have this collage from an @fatmuslim photo-a-day challenge on Instagram:

These faces are definitely some of my closest friends.

I have my group of girls that I tend to do most things with, whether it's an exercise class, a football match, a dinner, or a girls weekend. It can be all of us, some of us, or just two of us. It doesn't matter we always have a wonderful time. I'm so thankful to have them in my life, my life has definitely been better for having them in it!

Then there is my best guy friend, who I went to high school with. We've definitely had some ups and downs over the 8 years we've been friends. But I'm thankful to have him in my life.

And finally, in this collage, we have my closest friend from uni! We've made some amazing memories thus far, and cannot wait to make many more for many years to come!

I definitely have other people in my life that I consider close friends, but there's only so many photos that will fit in a iPhone collage ;)

Love all of my friends, you know who you are!!!

DAY 5: www.nba.com

Lately, I've been spending a lot of time on the NBA website. With season 2012/13 just tipping off, I've been watching lots of highlights, and catching up on all the latest NBA news.

Not very exciting, but definitely exciting to me ;)

DAY 4: Beach Lion

Day Four: A Photo I Took

I went for a walk along the Noosa boardwalk yesterday afternoon. Each day I'd been to the beach, I'd noticed these awesome sand sculptures. Each day they were different and so incredibly detailed and amazing.

Here's a photo of this awesome lion sculpture!

DAY 3: What I Did Today

Day 3: What I Did Today

Right now, I am currently at Noosa with a wonderful group of friends for the Noosa Triathlon long weekend.

While those competing in the triathlon, aren't doing so until later in the weekend, my event kicked off the festivities this afternoon...

I signed myself up for the Eyeline1000, which is a 1km Ocean swim.

I'm not sure why I continue to do this to myself. This is the third time in the last two years that I've done some sort of Ocean swim. The last two years at Mooloolaba and now this...

After the first year, I swore I would actually train before I did another... Yet, within a couple of weeks of my return to Australia this year, I was back at Mooloolaba and lining up to swim again with no training-this time in almost 3 years... WHEN WILL I LEARN!!

My friend Dave competes in the triathlon event, and after Mooloolaba this year we decided to get in the water and do the swimming training together... We were going really well for awhile there, but then Dave's twin girls made an incredibly early entrance into the world and we just haven't got our acts together since...

So yet again, I lined up for this race with very little training... Ok none...

Maybe by the time Mooloolaba rolls around next year, I maybe, just maybe, may have done a little more training to make this a whole lot easier on myself!!

I'll be sure to update you on the remainder of the weekend at a later date :)

DAY 2: The Meaning Behind "Beerexie"

Day 2: The meaning behind your username

So for those of you who don't know, my twitter and instagram usernames are beerexie. Beerexie comes from my nickname "B-Rex" and this is the story of how I came to be known as "B-Rex"

In February 2011, five friends and I traveled to Japan. We spent a few days exploring Tokyo and then headed to Niseko to ski. While we were in the airport on our way to Niseko, one of my friends was telling us about the idea that your arm span should be the same as your height. So here we are in the middle of the airport, measuring our arm spans up against a wall. When it got to my turn, we discovered that my arm span is a few inches shorter than my height. Almost instantaneously, the boys in the group started calling me T-Rex. The T in T-Rex was then dumped in favour of a B.

I couldn't have "b_rex" or "brex" when I changed my twitter username, so I went with "beerexie" as a homage to my newest and definitely most original nickname!

My nickname also means I get spammed with images such as these:

But it's all in good fun and I love it.

When I told the boys I was staying with in NYC about it, they whole heartedly embraced it and wanted to buy me a shirt with "T-Rex hates pushups" on it.

So there you go, that is the story of how I became B-Rex or beerexie!!

DAY 1: Picture+Facts

Day 1: Post a recent picture of yourself and 5 random facts

A couple of weekends ago, I had my makeup done during Westfield Chermside's Fashion Festival. When I got home, I couldn't help but take a douche bag selfie... Couldn't waste the makeup ;)

And five random facts about myself are:

1. I'm a March born Piscean, who swam competitively for more than 2/3rds of her life. I threw myself into the deep end of a pool when I was little more than 2 years old and came up squealing in delight. I was literally a water baby!

2. Both of my little fingers are crooked and look like they've been broken, but in reality they haven't been and that is just the way they are...

3. I've been a blonde, brunette and redhead and can say with absolute certainty that it's true, Blondes do have more fun!!

4. My Happy Gilmore "Happy Place" is Yamba, on the Northern New South Wales coast. We holidayed there every September school holidays from the time I was 11. My parents still go yearly, but I haven't been in a few years. I'm heading down with them in a couple of weeks and I cannot wait!!

5. If I was loaded and could do anything with my life, with no cares in the world about making ends meet, I would design my own swimsuit line. That or have a cake business... They kind of don't go together very well do they ;)

I'd love it if you shared 5 Random Facts About Yourself in the comments section below!

Roberto Cavalli for Target

This morning I decided to head over to my local Target and check out the latest "Designer for Target" collaboration. I've always liked these collaborations, and while some of the collections have been a bit hit and miss, I have at least one piece from almost all of them.

Looking through the lookbook, I was a bit concerned that the dresses would be too short for me. Admittedly they were being modelled by Karolina Kurkova who is 5"11 and has legs for miles, but they looked very short on her. Being an inch taller than her, I was worried.

Once I got there though, I was pleasantly surprised that there was a little more length in them than I was expecting. Even the maxi dress I was lusting after was long enough, just (well if I just wear flats...). And I can NEVER buy a maxi dress long enough!

I ended up buying three pieces from this collection.

This maxi dress:

This dress:

And this one piece:

I'm very happy with my purchases and cannot wait to wear them all :)

A new 30 day blog challenge...

Because I've been so slack, and haven't blogged as often as I should (or would like to) I've decided to have another crack at a 30 day blog challenge... Now we all know that I usually fail at these, but I am going to try REALLY hard to actually finish this one!!

It's actually a tumblr challenge that's been going around, but I don't really use my tumblr that much and I want to blog more, so I'm going to blog it here instead :)

So here is the list of blog posts:

Let's see how I go ;)

NBA 2012/2013

In less than 12 hours the 2012/2013 NBA Season tips-off...

I am so excited!

NRL Season has always been my favourite season... But the NBA season is catching up, fast!

Miami start their Championship defence tomorrow at 11am Brisbane time. Prior to tip-off they get to celebrate their Championship by having their ring and banner raising ceremony.

I can't wait for the season to get underway! You can look forward to many more posts regarding Miami and their progress for the next six, or so, months!! Haha.

Travel Snap Tuesday: Whistler

In January of this year, I was lucky enough to visit Whistler for the second time. After first visiting for a few days in late 2007/early 2008, D and her hubby, AB and her hubby and I spent a week there.

I LOVE Whistler!

Here are some photos that D and I took during our time there :)

The Olympic Rings in the Village were a new addition since
my first visit to Whistler in 2007/2008.

This is a shot I took whilst we were walking through
Whistler Village.

If you haven't eaten Ice Cream in the snow, you're just not cool...!

Jumping in the snow, in ugg boots... Really smart!
Especially when I had already hurt my wrist ;)

On our final day, D and I went to the top of Whistler Peak and
skied the Peak-2-Creek run. This was the awesome visibility we were
greeted with...

Polo

On Sunday, Sian and I, along with some of the other girls from Siany's work, went to the Jeep Australian Open Polo event that was held at Doomben.

I had the hardest time deciding what to wear. The extent of my polo knowledge was whatever is said in the media about polo when the Royals are involved, and that one episode of Gossip Girl that they went to a polo match in...

Basically, it's less dressy than the races (ie. no racing headwear/fascinators etc) but still kind of dressy... I also knew you had to wear flats or wedges so you could partake in the half time tradition of "stomping the divots". Which is exactly what it sounds like!

I ended up going for a trusty Wayne by Wayne Cooper dress, that is always an easy go to dress. I paired that with a pair of Tony Bianco wedges, pulled my hair into a high pony tail and curled it and finished my look off with a pink lip (Revlon Lip Butter in Lollipop) and my Tiffany's sunglasses.

Full length photo of my outfit.

A close up I took, before deciding to go with the Wayne Cooper dress.

Siany's 30th!!

Two weekends ago we celebrated my gorgeous friend Sian's 30th birthday!

It was such a fun night. There was 4 or 5 of us still sitting around drinking and talking at 4:30am!!!

My dress is Armani Exchange, and I wore Wayne by Wayne Cooper heels. Here are some shots from the night:

The birthday girl and I

Close up!

Sian, her hubby Matt, me and Vonnie

The girls and I - Siany, Donna and Andrea

Mel & I! (Mel came up from Sydney for the weekend!)

I also made the cake for the party!

I spent 15 hours, over Friday and Saturday, baking, icing and decorating a three-tier cake for her party. Siany's only instructions were "it has to be pink" and "if you could do a rainbow cake that would be awesome" which lets be honest, anyone who knows Siany, would know the cake had to be pink. I decided to do a pink gradient cake, instead of a rainbow cake because i thought the rainbow might be a bit much with an entire cake with pink icing.

The top and bottom tiers were gradient, while the middle tier was chocolate!

This is Siany and her cake before she cut it!

This is Sian and I with the cake after she cut it :)

It was such a fun night!! Happy Dirty Thirty, Siany!!!

Travel Snap Tuesday: LA

The next destination in my US themed Travel Snap Tuesday is LA.

I spent one night in LA during my road trip (for a HEAT game) then spent a week there before heading off to Vegas. I also returned to LA a few weeks later with my friend D and her hubby T for a few days before our other friends A and D joined us!

I picked a few shots to share with you including two shots - inside and out - of the Staples Center (where the HEAT played):

D, T & I went shopping at The Grove one day and saw Mario Lopez filming Extra. I LOVE Mario Lopez from his days on Saved By The Bell!! I might go so far as to say that this was my favourite celeb sighting of my entire six month adventure!!

This was our last day in LA. Which we chose to spend in Santa Monica! This photo was taken from the pier looking back to shore.

D, T & I spent a day at Disneyland, but I think that deserves it's own TST post which I will get to eventually!!

Harajuku Gyoza

On Tuesday night Andrea, Donna, Sian and I went to check out Harajuku Gyoza for dinner.

The food was AMAZING! The gyoza were so yummy, I could have eaten double what I ordered (even though it would have made me ill!) The karaage was delicious also. But I think the highlight, or perhaps the cherry on top, was the desert gyoza! A, D & I all had the apple gyoza and they were amazing. They definitely had more of a cinnamon flavour, but they were soooooooo good!

Overall, I highly recommend and look forward to my next visit!!

Travel Snap Tuesday: San Fran

When I left NYC in January of this year, I headed back to LA to explore a small section of the West coast. Included in my 10 day road trip was a 3 day stay in San Francisco!

I'll be honest, San Fran wasn't my favourite place. But one part of San Fran that I loved was Alcatraz!

Here is a photo of a cell. The reason I am including this photo is for perspective... It is bigger than the single bed hostel I stayed in in NYC. They even had their own toilet in the cell... For a couple of days the toilets on my floor of the hostel were out of order so I had to go down stairs to the common room to use the bathroom... annoying...

This is a shot looking back to San Fran:

The other highlight of San Fran was Ghiradelli! YUM! I had the best ice cream sundae from Ghiradelli!!

And finally, a blog post on San Fran wouldn't be complete without a shot of the Golden Gate Bridge!!

Lunch Date

Today, Tahlia and I went to "Lady Lamington" in the Valley for a late lunch and a few sneaky drinks! I'd never been before, but went there on T's recommendation. Wow, what a little gem of a place!

It was the kind of place I would expect to find in Melbourne, not Brisbane. It has this cute little rooftop area, with big umbrellas and funky outdoor lounges and chairs.

The food was awesome! We had arancini balls and spring rolls. The arancini were AMAZING! I could have easily eaten another serve!! I also had two peach bellinis - yumm!

T told me to "wear something new" from my US shopping haul, so she could see some of what I bought. I chose to wear my Tommy Hilfiger dress, with my Coach wedges and bag and my new sunglasses. Here is a photo of me:

It was a lovely afternoon. Will definitely have to check out "Lady Lamington" again ... Next time, I won't drive!

Cuddles!

I spent yesterday afternoon at my good friend B's house. B and her husband had twins in April, that were born more than three months premmie. But they have now been home for almost 2 months, and are doing really well.

As you can imagine, with twins it's a little difficult to get much done, so B used my extra set of hands to get some cooking done, while I had lots of cuddles with the twins.

While I was in New York, I bought the twins matching outfits. The shirts say "Someone who loves me very much went to New York and got me this". They were too cute not to buy!

Here is a photo of me having cuddles with the twins!

We had lots of fun chatting about our upcoming long weekend at Noosa for the Noosa Triathlon Weekend!!

I always love catching up with B!

Fashion's Night Out

New York Fashion Week kicked off while mum and I were in NYC. And with Fashion Week comes Fashion's Night Out. FNO was started in 2008 by Anna Wintour during the height of the GFC and was seen as a way of boosting sales.

Basically retailers put on food, drink, prizes, celebrity appearances and GWPs etc to entice shoppers to visit their stores.

Mum and I decided to head up to Lord & Taylor, a department store, to celebrate the night. Upon arrival we both received a key. There were 30 locked boxes located throughout the nine levels of their store. Simply, if your key unlocked the box, you won whatever was in the box. Some of the prizes included iPads, Kate Spade leather goods and make up packs. We didn't win anything, but it was still fun searching for the boxes and hoping ;)

Lord & Taylor had plenty of other things going on, including free facials and make up stations, Jockey male models and the NYC fire department signing their 2013 calendars. They also provided free drink stations including champagne, wine, vodka cocktails and tequila!

Shopping and drinking - does it get any better?! hehe.

While we were walking around I was approached by two people who asked me if they could take a photo of me and my outfit for their blog.

Here is the photo they took, minus my head - which I cut out haha:

I was wearing navy Gap shorts, Banana Republic blouse, tan Tony Bianco wedges and tan Tony Bianco handbag.

I also had a photo with the Jockey male models. One of them was tall, and we all know how much I love a photo with anyone who is taller than me!! haha.

I had my six inch wedges on in this photo and he is still taller than me!! hehe

All in all we had a really great night! It was lots of fun, and shopping and drinking should be mixed more regularly! HA!

New York - Part One!!

So incase you missed it, my mum and I recently returned home from 18 days in New York City. We headed over, mainly for the US Open tennis, but we also did a few touristy things and A LOT of shopping!

Part One of the NYC recap is going to focus on the shopping!

And boy, did we shop!

The second day we were in NYC, we headed out to the Woodbury Common Outlets. Now I'd been to a stack of outlets the last time I was in the US, but wooooooooow, these are out of this world! They're massive! So many stores, everything from Salvatore Ferragamo to Calvin Klein to DKNY to Burberry, the list doesn't end!!

Mum and I arrived at 10am and left at 7pm-ish... Many bags in hand!

Some of my favourite purchases from the Woodbury Commons are:

My new coach handbag:

A Tommy Hilfiger dress:

and an Elie Tahari top:

I also grabbed a couple of shirts from Calvin Klein, among a few other things.

We timed our trip really well, because we were there for the Labor Day long weekend, which meant there were some crazy sales going on.

As an example, I picked up a Banana Republic dress over the long weekend sales for $18. Yes, $18. I had seen the dress a few days earlier and it was $47... Needless to say, I'm glad I passed on it two days earlier!!

Other sale items I picked up were:

3 x Armani Exchange dresses (one of which is pictured below)

A pair of shorts from Gap and a blouse from Banana Republic, which I teamed together to wear to Fashion's Night Out. (I will do a separate post on that!)

A pair of Coach wedges:

and a pair of Coach ballet flats:

But quite possibly, my favourite purchase would be the Tiffany's sunglasses I bought!! They just happen to be my first Tiffany's purchase too!

I also grabbed a haul from M.A.C and Sephora.

As you can tell, I definitely shopped up a storm! That empty duffle bag i packed into my suitcase on the way over definitely came in handy!!

Part Two and Three of the recap to come soon!
