Things You Might Not Know About Me: Some of my Swimming "Career"

So I thought I would share a bunch of facts about me relating to different aspects of my life. I thought I would start off with "Swimming". I spent the majority of my life in a pool of some description. So why not start there. Here are 15 facts about how I started swimming and the first club I trained at:

  1. I was born on the 19 March;
  2. That makes me a Pisces;
  3. I was always destined to swim - from the age of 2 or 3 I was throwing myself into the deep-end of our family pool. My parents freaked and tried to get me lessons;
  4. The local learn to swim teacher took me and dunked me under the water without warning, I came up screaming and told my mum to "go away, she's not ready to learn to swim";
  5. A year or two later Mum took me to a different local pool to learn to swim;
  6. I spent the next 13 years training at that club;
  7. On my first ever "Club Night" at 4 or 5 years old, my mum made me a catsuit and matching bathing cap for me to race in!;
  8. She made most of my togs right the way through until my teenage years when chlorine resistant togs came out. After that she made togs for me less regularly, but she still did when I asked nicely ;) hehe;
  9. Mum told me the other day that I couldn't do butterfly for a few years. Then on the afternoon before Club Championships when I was 9 - I came home proclaiming that "I've got it now!";
  10. I went on to race the 25m Butterfly at Club Championships and broke the Club Record;
  11. To this day, I still hold two Records at that Club: 9yrs 25m Freestyle (which I also broke at the same Club Championships, and 14yrs 50m Breaststroke;
  12. I wore size 6 togs for racing until I was 12... What can I say, they were supposed to be tight!;
  13. I briefly shared a gym on Saturday's with swimmers like Liesel Jones and Geoff Huegill;
  14. I spent more time dolphin diving during training when I was little than I did "swimming laps"; and
  15. I left that club because the same coach I'd had for all those years left a year or two prior and the new one wasn't my biggest fan and he wasn't as good of a coach as my previous coach!
I plan to keep sharing a few "things you might not know about me" as we go along... But this is the starting point :).

Here are two photos of me racing. I am not 100% sure how old I am in them, but I do know it was Mini's (kind of like the Junior State Titles, before they actually had Junior State Titles...) So I am guessing I was 6 or maybe 7?! This was the age group medley relay. I was doing the Breastroke leg :)

Would love you to share a "something you might not know about me" fact with me :).

xx love Breanna

  1. It's very funny reading this - my swimming 'Career' was pretty much the same, except I quit once I was in grade 9. I held a few club records (including 25m Fly!), was swimmer of the week when I was at Commercial and swam a 38sec 50m free when I was 9 or 10...?? can't remember what year and can't remember enough about it now to guestimate! Ah those were the days! I loved club night... Yes the tight togs for competition - and did you wear two pairs of togs when you were training?

    These photos were taken at the valley pool?

  2. Brisbane is so small, and the Brisbane swimming world is even smaller. This is only the first chapter of my swimming career... Swam at 3 more clubs after that. Only quit in '09 - really wish I hadn't/had put more effort in for a few years prior!! I swam at Commercial in 08/09 :) I hated club night - never swam well at club night, let everyone my age beat me, then would come out on club championships or BSA meets or whatever and beat them all... Drove my coach insane :P haha... What can I say, I guess I liked "big" competitions... I did for awhile, but then they made us wear dragsuits!! THEY WERE AWFUL!! hehehe.

    Yes, thats the Valley Pool!!

    Breaststroke was always my best stroke.
