Learning to Sew!

For those who know me, you would know that I have a lot of trouble buying dresses that are long enough for my 6' tall frame! As a result, my uber talented mum generally makes a lot of my dresses for me!!

She is so talented, it's ridiculous!

Once I gave her a dress of my friend Tahlia's from Powerhouse M&F, and asked her to make it for me. It wasn't a simple design either!! Sure enough, she made her own pattern off a fully constructed dress and then made the dress for me. Crazy! But it's definitely a skill I am thankful she has!!

Anyway, I decided it was about time that I tried my hand at sewing. A few weeks ago I bought some fabric from Spotlight for a dress and bought a Vogue-Anna Sui pattern to use the fabric for. Mum suggested that we should make a "rough draft" to ensure the pattern was the right size before using the good fabric.

As mum was otherwise occupied, painting a piece for my friends' twins' nursery (yes, she can paint as well... too many creative genes in her-it's not fair!!) I decided to give the top of the dress pattern a crack from some 40yr old fabric of mum's I have loved for years!! Thankfully there was just enough left to get the top out!!

Here is a photo from day 1:

It has progressed quite well from there. I will post a photo once it is complete!

I'm pretty proud, so far I've done all of the construction myself! Mum's just advised me on the best way to do things!! Can't wait to finish it and show you all!!

xx love Breanna
