Olympic Moments: A Family Affair & So Close

Two Olympic Moments I wanted to mention after last nights action.

The first is Zara Phillips winning silver as part of Team GB's equestrian team and having her medal presented to her by her mother!

Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal (Princess Anne) has presented Olympic Equestrian Medals for sometime as part of the IOC, and this Olympics was to be no different. The only difference was that this year, her daughter Zara Phillips, was apart of Team GB and GB won the silver in the 3 day event. This makes Zara the first member of the Royal Family to win a medal. Seeing mother present daughter with her Olympic medal was really sweet. They even snuck in a quick cheek kiss too!

The second Olympic Moment I want to mention is the finish of the Men's 200m Butterfly.

Michael Phelps was aiming to win the event for the 3rd successive Olympics, everyone else in the race was aiming to stop him. Quite frankly, the 200m Butterfly is a killer, and I have no idea why anyone would actually want to race it... But people do...

Phelps lead the entire way and looked like he had it in the bag. When from no where, in the last 25m came South African Chad Le Clos.

In a strange twist of fate, the finish is almost identical to the finish of the 100m Butterfly from Beijing four years ago... Only that time, Michael Phelps came from behind to touch out Milorad Cavic of Serbia.

I've included some video footage of both races for your viewing pleasure! haha.

200m Butterfly Final - London 2012

100m Butterfly Final - Beijing 2008

The reason I wanted to mention this moment, is because I never, ever, ever, ever thought I would witness Michael Phelps have such an awful finish! Finishing on a half stroke like that is just not what you expect from, arguably, the best swimmer of all time. I still can hardly believe I witnessed that!

Until next time.

xx love Breanna
